This isn't your usual holiday break. We change our thoughts often as to whether to open it up for holidays. To explain...It is an experience & a change in lifestyle break. We live closely with nature & use natural methods that help to support the ecosystem, environment & planet. We ask you to embrace these ways whilst staying here as much as possible.
For example we collect our water from the rain using a rainwater harvesting system. You need to be prepared to massively reduce your usual water usage whilst staying here. It means taking only 5 minute showers instead of singing for 15mins or more whilst enough water slips away that could quench the thirst of many in arid lands & turning off taps in between brushing your teeth, hair shampooing, conditioning etc. If you are a 'have to wash my hair everyday' person then this isn't the place for you. (Having been a hairdresser that's not good for your hair & scalp anyway) Also washing up with just enough water & not a huge bowl full for say one cup & plate etc.
Its a great experience to wake up to our excessive wastage ways & feel the real joy of helping this amazing planet we share & therefore share responsibility for. When so many in the world don't have clean drinking water we felt we had to choose differently, so to save water we took out our toilets that flushed un-justifiable amounts of potentially drinking water down the drain & put in sawdust toilets that compost down to pure soil using natural thermophilic methods. Joseph Jenkins quoted "some crap in drinking water, others don't, who are the crazy ones"? So if you find yourselves caring for similar things then come and spend some time in our beautiful Eniya Barn for your self catering get away.
Being here can't help but naturally ease away your stresses and strains from the moment you arrive and breathe in the fresh mountain air. Its quiet, out of the way location within Snowdonia's National Park is the ultimate escape from the madness, yet only a short drive away from the heart of activities.
This option is for adults only who are looking for a quiet holiday, into nature and the environment and are happy to uphold those peaceful ways whilst staying here.
Whilst you are here take in the breath taking surroundings that Snowdonia has to offer at every turn. You could take a trip on the Ffestiniog steam railway which goes by on the opposite side of the fields, hearing its whistle is heart warming! Or take the mountain train to Snowdons summit, (Wales' tallest mountain), if you feel fit enough challenge yourself to a walk up one of its many paths. A walkers paradise literally on the doorstep. Too many to mention on here.
The village of Beddgelert is 15 minutes drive away set along a gentle meandering river bank, it offers local quality hand made crafts, fudge, ice cream parlor, general store, post office, pubs and cafe. There is a beautiful 'alpine style' walk through the Glaslyn valley here.
For larger town life and shopping there is Caernarfon and Bangor with their more mainstream shops and eateries.
The Isle of Anglesey is approx 35mins drive away where you can visit it's many attractions. The rare phenomena of bioluminescence can be seen from here along with the northern lights on occasions.
Explore 'Mona' & visit some superb examples of our history that still have stood the challenges of time.
'Zip world' has the fastest zip line, amongst other activities, travelling up to speeds of 100mph! Speeding face down over mountains & lakes perfect for any thrill seekers out there.
Its not far to the coast so take in the beautiful sandy beaches and castles before returning to the tranquility of The Eniya Barn.
